Ping Rapture V2 Irons
The Ping Rapture V2 Irons result from Ping's investment in multi-metal technology that combines the key properties of various materials to deliver a club that produces an optimal performance. The Rapture V2 iron is made up or a tungsten sole weight, a titanium face and a stainless steel body to allow for an innovative game improvement design. The lightweight titanium face allows weight to be relocated to the wider tungsten sole that positions the centre of gravity ideally for a higher launch angle and increased MOI. As a result the Ping Rapture V2 can incorporate stronger lofts to increase distance without sacrificing any control. The incorporation of a deeper Custom Tuning Port with elastomer inserts increases face stability for a solid feel and a uniform response across the whole clubface.
Ping Rapture V2 Driver
The mass properties of tungsten and titanium are optimized in the Rapture® V2™ Driver to create a high launching, lower spinning driver that delivers the performance expectedfrom a multi-metal design. The visible, dense tungsten weight pads in the back of the lightweight titanium head expand the perimeter weighting and position the center-of-gravity low and away from the face.The 460cc head is slightly elongatedby extending the face height and aggressively sloping the crown. The thin face is precisely machined and plasma-welded to deliverhigher ball speeds for greater distance.
Ping Rapture V2 Fairway Wood
In the Rapture® V2™ Fairway Wood, the density and shape of the tungsten sole plate positions the center of gravity (CG) for higher launching, longer flying shots. The concentration of the 61-gram tungsten sole plate, which represents 34% of the club head's mass, allowed our engineers to move the CG location lower and farther from the face for increased launch and lower spin.

Are New Golf Club Models Really Better
Are new golf club models really better?
4/5/2010 by <!--START: feed_author-->Roger Pedrick <!--END: feed_author-->
<!--END: BODY_HEADER-->
Each year new golf clubs come out and we assume that the latest model must be the latest and greatest but do we know what the difference is between the different models. What did they do to the new model that wasn't done to the old model? Well, lets look at two different models of drivers, the Ping G15 and the Ping G10. Both of these drivers have been and are still great drivers, but what's the difference.
First, let's look at the Ping G10 driver and its construction. The G10 had a new, thin crown pattern which provided discretionary weight which was positioned INSIDE the head to optimize the CG location for higher launch angle and a lower spin rate. The Ping engineers optimized the G10 crown, sole, and face structure interaction to ensure maximum energy transfer to the ball.
The driver was still 460 CC but featured a large profile with a taller face and deeper crown that would produce a higher MOI. A club head with a higher MOI will twist less as a result of mis-hits, giving the golfer a better change of hitting the ball where he's aiming without losing distance. This creates more forgiveness and a higher ball speed off the face of the driver.
The G10 started their loft at 7.5 up to 13.5 degrees of loft. With a thin crown the head weight was 199 grams.
Now, let's look at the G15. Ping moved the weight from the INSIDE to the external sole weight position in order to position the CG low and farther from the face. The 460 CC crown is longer front to back but still has the ultra thin crown. Weight saving from the thin crown is now positioned as an external sole weight, optimized the CG for higher trajectories and reduced spin. The larger face is designed to increase ball speed and provide consistency across the entire hitting surface.
With the G15 the lofts start at 9.0 to 13.5 degrees. However, the head weight increased to 204 grams. Swing weight, length, lie and no offset all remained the same.
So to summarize: forgiveness is extreme in both the G10 andG15. The trajectory is higher with the G15, spin rate is lower with the G15 and the profile is more elongated with the G15 than with the G10.
So after comparing apples to apples or driver to driver, Ping did make adjustments that will help the average golfer and increase his enjoyment level.
