All-stainless steel Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Fairway Wood
The new all-stainless steel Diablo Octane Fairway Woods are built for power. Aggressive VFT Technology precisely varies the internal thickness of the face in each club to increase the size of the sweet spot and maximize ball speeds across the face. Golfers have the opportunity to choose either Standard models designed for playability and distance, or the Tour models designed for complete workability and distance.
Like their larger driver brethren, Callaway is releasing new Diablo Octane and Diablo Octane Tour fairway woods. As one would expect, the standard version is larger, with a deeper CG to help the player to get the ball higher in the air. On the other hand, the smaller Tour model takes a little of the "GI" out of the picture, but allows for more workability with a lower, more boring, penetrating ball flight.
A key component of the Diablo Octane fairways is Callaway's Variable Face Technology, which effectively expands the sweet spot, increasing ball speeds across a larger contact area, and ultimately promoting longer, more consistent distances. More energy is transferred to the ball thanks to this face design, which is thickest in the middle and thinnest around the outer edges.
Solid Stainless construction is about as new and revolutionary as...well. Let's see---The Steelhead Plus Metals I currently carry in my bag---and those back date several generations in club years. VFT--or "Variable Face Technology" has also been around for well over a few club generations.
It looks pretty--has good distancel, and has decent balance---but it doesn't come close to deserving a TP in the name as far as Tour Performance is concerned. Now "TP" as far as Beevis and Butthead are concerned?--hmmm....at $200 a crack--possibly so. (Heh Heh.....Heh Heh...Fire Fire...Heh Heh) Personally, I'd take a flyer on this one. I like the regular version ever so much better simply because it doesn't pretend to be something it's not--and they also offer 4, 7, and 9 woods. Why they couldn't at least offer something on these such as a better shaft is beyond me. Trust me---the tour guys aren't playing this mediocre graphite rod in their fairway metals--and you shouldn't either if you're paying for a "Tour Preferred Club."

Gender for Big Bertha X 14 Irons?
Hi, I just got a set of golf clubs and starting to play golf. However, the Big Bertha Steelhead X 14 Irons seem to be too heavy for me. Are they for males or females?
I have had X-14's with all 3 shaft combinations: Uni-Flex Steel, Rifle Shaft Steel and RCH Graphite -- I love them and have found that the swing-weight of the 75 gram graphite is the best for me. Also, I prefer the X-14 "pro-series" as it has less offset and a bit lower face angle through the set that produces a lower ball flight than regular X-14's.
Also noteworthy for women is that Anika Sorrenstam -- the major woman staff player at Callaway -- played X-14's until just recently. Callaway wanted her to play their most recent sets like the X-16's, X-18's, etc., but for years she preferred the X-14's.
Therefore, I suggest you try the clubs with various shaft combinations and focus on the lighter club weight and lighter swing weight graphite shafts. Also, I have purchased most of my Callaway iron sets from CallawayGolfPreowned.com. Their clubs are in beautiful condition and you'll pay anywhere from 20% - 50% less for clubs that are used, but refurbished and warranted by their manufacturer.
