What You Need To Know When You Travel And Golf
Golf travel bags are designed for golfers who are taking their equipment with them on a trip. Nowadays more places are advertising holidays that are specially designed for people who play golf. Just as with any other golfing bag, golf travel bags come in a variety of styles, shapes, colors and sizes so you should be able to find just what you need. A lot will depend on how far you are going to travel, how much use you are going to make of the bag, and what it will cost. You may find that there is a wide variation in the cost of these travel bags so it is well worth doing some research and shopping around before you buy. If you are travelling long distance and need to fly to your destination then you will need a good, strong bag that will protect your golf clubs.
When you go on an aeroplane then it is advisable to get yourself a golf travel bag that has hard sides. Hard travel cases have been designed to withstand any unusual impact and this is necessary if you want to protect your clubs from damage. However, a hard sided case is not going to be a cheap item so it is well worth looking around your local stores to see if they are offering discounts on old stock. Make sure, if you decide to go for a discounted bag that it is strong enough to protect your clubs when they are in the hold of a plane, or being thrown around by careless airport staff.
If you are only travelling a short distance than you will probably be ok with a soft sided travel case for your golfing equipment. Most of these have reinforced sides, waterproofing, padding and straps to protect and secure your clubs. These bags tend to look like a large but ordinary travel bag or a large duffle bag. Although a soft sided bag will be cheaper than one with hard sides, it is still not a cheap item so it is a good idea to shop around and compare prices before you go out and buy one.

Traveling on plane and taking golf clubs .. 1st time question?
Tomorrow will be the first day I ever fly with my clubs. I went out and bought a hard shell travel case so I wouldn't have to worry as much about the waiver for a soft shell bag, and the extra protection I hope a hard shell provides. It also has 4 metal clasps with built-in locks so I don't have to worry about a padlock hanging out and snagging on something.
My question is does the golf travel case come out with the regular luggage/baggage claim, or due to its size, do I have to pick it up from an office somewhere? I am flying from Atlanta to Memphia and very nervous about my clubs. Again, this is the first time I have ever flown anywhere and taken my clubs with me
Every time I have flown with golf clubs (American Airlines), I pick them up at the oversize baggage area. Oversize baggage is usually a small conveyer belt very near your assigned baggage claim area, or possibly may pick them up at the baggage claim office, which should be inside baggage claim area.
Probably so they dont get all messed up bouncing around on the conveyers, and sliding down from overhead, etc etc. Good thing too.......the sticks aren't getting any cheaper 
Be forwarned though, if your hard case, when packed weighs over 50 lbs, you will be nailed for an overweight baggage fee (50-100 bucks)
