Woods and Golf Digest part ways

Golf Digest has announced that they are ending their 13-year relationship with Tiger Woods.

 

 

The announcement comes only two weeks after Gillette announced that Woods would also no longer be working them. It is the fifth sponsorship the former world number one has lost since damaging revelations about his personal life first became public in 2009. (Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Driver)

 

"Golf Digest and Tiger Woods have mutually agreed to stop his monthly bylined articles," said Golf Digest editor in chief Jerry Tarde in a statement. "We appreciate the insights Tiger has provided to our readers."

 

Woods, who writes a monthly column for the magazine, will see his last piece published in the February issue. Though he took a five-month hiatus from writing the column during his self-imposed hiatus from the game last year, he had returned to regular duties last September.

Woods still golf's top earner

Despite losing a host of sponsors and failing to win a single tournament in 2010, Tiger Woods is once again golf's top earner.

 

 

The loss of key Mizuno MX-1000 Irons , coupled with his lowest tournament earnings in over a decade, mean that Woods earned a relatively paltry $74.2 million in 2010, according to Golf Digest magazine's annual earning list.

 

That figure is down a staggering $48m from 2009's $121.9m, but is still good enough to ensure that the world number two is still the sport's biggest earner.

 

Woods' income took a turn for the worse after a dramatic series of Mizuno MP-57 Irons about his personal life were made public after the now famous car crash on Thanksgiving in 2009.

 

Embroiled in a sex scandal, the beleaguered golfer was immediately dropped by sponsors Accenture, AT&T, and Gatorade. Though Woods still draws an estimated $72m from Nike, Electronic Arts, Tag Heuer, Upper Deck and TLC Laser Vision Centers, razor company Gillette has also recently revealed that they will not be renewing their contract with him.

 

Phil Mickelson who likes Ping Anser Forged Irons is second on the top earners list, with total earnings of $40.18m, while Arnold Palmer ($36m) is third. They are followed by Greg Norman ($30m), Jack Nicklaus ($25.17m) and Jim Furyk ($23.58m). Rounding out the top ten are South Africans Ernie Els in seventh ($21.5m) and Gary Player in eighth ($15.01 m), with Britain's Lee Westwood in ninth ($14.73m) and Luke Donald in tenth ($12,5m).
